Blizzard of 2011...or Not

The forecast was bad, it was supposed to be a history-making storm.  We were supposed to get an entire night of ice, followed by white out conditions of snow, the final tally being about 2-3" of ice underneath 12-18 " of snow.  That's not what happened.  We were too prepared.  We had heat, light, food we could cook, everything was ready for the expected power outage, including all of the families we visit and home teach invited over in case power went out and there was no heat source for the babies.  They had 700 (I think, I can't remember) power men on standby for when the power went out.  And although they did have a blizzard, it bypassed our house.  It was very anti-climatic. The ice we were supposed to get all night turned to sleet, and sleet, rather than coat everything, bounces off of everything. In fact the picture below of our little dead end street is all sleet, not snow.  It was in the morning.  It did than snow beautifully for the rest of the day after that.  We got 3".

Oh look, it's the adorable snow girl!  Olivia loves to play in the snow and would stay outside playing all day if it wasn't for her mean parents.  She'll play by herself for hours.
Katie had her first experience playing out in the snow this year.  Did she like it......
A picture is worth a thousand words!!

Oooohhh.....ain't it pretty!  Who says winter can't be beautiful, in it's own way.
Even simple things look like works of art in this type of storm.
The old postal saying "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" .  I guess icestorms don't count.

This was the pre snow picture.  The snow hadn't even started yet and the ground was white.
Four of the six out in the sunshiny cold.  Kinda like an oxymoron ain't it!  It was a radiant 10 degrees.
Big bad dad out freeing the van from the grips of the snow monster.  No shovel was clearing these driveways, it took chisel and hammer. Or garden edger, it was a tough decision.  In the end the edger won out.                                                                                                                                                                                        And of course tragedy struck.
This picture cracks me up, don't worry, by the time they got her to me she was perfectly happy to play out in the back all by herself for a couple more hours.

Sorry about the mess, Blogger is baffling me and I'm just too lazy to figure it out.
